Generally, when you think of The Asylum, mockbusters and deliberately cheesy B-movies come to mind. You don’t often hear about their attempts at “serious” pictures, but that’s what they’re going for with President Down, their new political thriller that just launched exclusively on Tubi.
I don’t know if someone would be considered a viable presidential candidate if they had a pacemaker, as it’s an obvious vulnerability…but the fictional POTUS at the center of President Down does. She collapses during a peace accord, and it’s the doing of a group of organized terrorists who have hacked her pacemaker and now hold the world hostage. Our main characters, a group of federal agents, have a limited amount of time to track down the perpetrators, save her life and keep the peace talks from derailing.
President Down stars Gail O’Grady as the President of the United States, Gina Vitori as her daughter, Jesse Kove, David Chokachi, Paul Logan, Johnny Pacar, and G. Anthony Joseph as Dr. Walsh, who we’re told is the villain (maybe that’s a spoiler, maybe not….but it sounds like one). “It was a blast being cast as the villain Dr Walsh and being directed by director Nick Lyon,” says Joseph. “He was such a pleasure to work with. He was very decisive and very firm in his craft yet he gave me room to create as an artist. That freedom made me feel totally relaxed on set despite the schedule we all had to keep. Nick was definitely a master at finding that balance.”
