Armed with Controllers plays: Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker
Armed with Controllers’ KB and Stapesy are back for our Friday feature to play one of the most peculiar side-scrolling beat ‘em ups ever made.
This week, our favourite Londoners delve into Sega’s videogame interpretation of Moonwalker, an anthology of short films and long-form music videos starring the King of Pop. Released on the Master System and Mega Drive platforms in 1990, the aim of the game is to find and rescue youngsters who have been kidnapped by a nefarious villain called Mr Big.
As the AwC twosome demonstrate, dance-fighting your way through waves of goons to the synthesised sounds of ‘Smooth Criminal’ and ‘Beat It’ is entertaining and fun, but considering the various allegations that overshadowed MJ’s career, they just can’t keep the innuendos in check. Mind you, this is a game where the groin-grabbing music superstar is saving children from a nemesis with a suggestive designation. It’s like waving a red flag at a bull.
To any Michael Jackson fans about to watch this: we’re sorry.
