Studio Wildcard officially announced this week that there will be new modding competition for ARK: Survival Evolved. The development studio wants fans to submit their modding entries, and the winner will receive a total of over $60,000 in cash for the prize. The contest will allow mod submissions in three categories: “Mods”; “Maps”; and “Total Conversions.” In addition, Studio Wildcard also announced the addition of two new dinos for the ARK Living Arsenal: the Dung Beetle and the Dimetrodon. You can check out the images and trailers for the creatures below.
Players who want to enter the contest will have to use the ARK Dev Kit, which is a streamlined version of the UE4 Editor. Studio Wildcard is asking for all entries to be submitted before March 15. The winners will be revealed on April 15. The contest will award 15 prizes, and first through fifth places in each category. Studio Wildcard also confirmed two new dinosaurs for PC players. First, is the excrement eating Dung Beetle and the protective Dimetrodon for the dino defenses.
The Dimetrodon gives players some shade during excessive heat and shelter from extreme cold through a massive insulating sail on its back. The Dimetrodon is friendly to survivors and it likes to roam around in the swamplands.
The Dung Beetle is a biofactory that eats excrement and useless waste material. It metabolizes that material to produce a burnable oil that can power generators and fertilize crops. The Dung Beetle is perfect pet for cleaning up around the tribe’s dirty living quarters.
ARK: Survival Evolved is set to launch later this summer for Xbox One through the ID@Xbox program and PlayStation 4. The game will also have Project Morpheus support. In addition, the game game is currently playable in Microsoft’s Game Preview on Xbox One and Steam’s Early Access program. It will get a full Steam release for Windows PC later this summer too.
