Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs Nears Completion
For those of you that are still recovering from the mental scars left from playing Frictional Games hit indie horror Amnesia: The Dark Descent (or maybe you just saw some online videos of people recording their reactions during gameplay) then you will be glad to know the sequel titled Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs will be released later in the year. This time however, it is to be developed by thechineseroom, who are responsible for the Half-Life 2 mod Dear Esther. Not to worry though, Frictional Games are still responsible for producing the title.
Set 60 years after the The Dark Descent, Oswald Mandus, a wealthy industrialist returns from an expedition to Mexico which had ended in tragedy. Due to illness, he has become comatose and finds himself cursed by recurring nightmares in which he hears the sound of machines. Without realizing how much time has passed, he wakes up only to hear the loud roaring noises of an engine nearby.
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs was originally due for release last Halloween, but was delayed due to desire to meet expectations. Here is a status update on Frictional Games website from February.
“How come a game meant for Halloween 2012 has been delayed for so long? Originally we thought it would be a short, experimental game set in the universe of Amnesia, but thechineseroom had a vision that was bigger than that. As their work progressed, the potential for a much greater project emerged. What we ended up with is no longer what we had first imagined, but a fully fledged Amnesia game. A different kind of Amnesia, but definitely not a short experiment.”
Since then however, they have announced that development had been completed in February and are currently in the process of “testing, tweaking, optimizing, porting, and translating” before its release.
