It seems like it took forever, but Nintendo finally revealed the final Amiibo for Super Smash Bros. guest roster characters Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII and Bayonetta from Bayonetta. Series creator Masahiro Sakurai had announced that Amiibo were in the works for both characters, but we hadn’t seen anything for the longest time. Nintendo finally unveiled the new Amiibo figurines for the characters on this week’s Nintendo Direct.
So there will be two different Amiibo for Cloud, one based on Final Fantasy VII and another based on Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Bayonetta will also get two Amiibo, based on her appearances in Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2. Additionally, Corrin from Fire Emblem Fates is also getting two Amiibo. These figures are due out for retailers on July 21.
It’s nice that these Amiibo figures are finally getting released. They are way overdue. That being said, Nintendo really messed up by taking so long to get these on the shelves. These really should’ve been out in 2016. Now, they are out well past the launch of the Nintendo Switch. It’s unknown if there was a delay for these figures. Honestly, it’s better late than ever. However, it’s still a major missed opportunity that these figures are coming out so long after the characters became available as DLC in Super Smash Bros.
