In 2019, Free League discovered that in space, no one can hear you scream. In 2024, you will discover that on Earth, everyone can hear you scream! When you’re playing the just-announced Second Edition, that is.
The official Alien Ripleying Game — I’m leaving that typo in there — has become one of Free League’s biggest hits since it was introduced five years ago. It’s grown in size with expansions and add-ons, but a full second edition seemed inevitable eventually. Soon you’ll be able to Build Better Worlds with new artwork, new content, and a variety of new tools, all of which will be compatible with previous releases of the game.
A Kickstarter is planned for the fall that will introduce a new starter set that will serve as the perfect entry point for anyone just getting into the Alien RPG, including abridged Second Edition rules, character sheets, custom dice, reference cards and handouts, plus an expanded edition of the Hope’s Last Day scenario. But there will be material for veterans of the game too: a new cinematic scenario, Rapture Protocol, will come in its own set. The scenario was written by Jonathan Hicks and Free League’s Tomas Härenstam, and features the crew of a small star freighter on a resupply run to a remote industrial colony, which soon becomes embroiled in a deadly conflict.
We’ll have more info about the Alien RPG Second Edition Kickstarter as we get closer to its launch date, which should be sometime this fall.
