Ahsoka Gets Her Own Show August 23
After George Lucas wrapped up his theatrical Star Wars movies “forever” with Revenge of the Sith, he turned to animation to tell some stories that occurred in between the prequel trilogy. The Clone Wars was the result, a CGI cartoon that debuted its pilot on the big screen and, there, revealed a new character that had not made any appearance in any of the movies: Ahsoka Tano.
Ahsoka wasn’t just anyone…she was Anakin’s own apprentice. Through that connection, she would unavoidably be in nearly every episode, and Star Wars was taking a risk with that (we had already seen what happens when the audience doesn’t like a character). The gamble paid off this time, however…people loved Ahsoka. She generated a fanbase over the seasons of The Clone Wars that became increasingly worried about her absence in the movies and what that could mean. Where did she go by the time Anakin flipped out, became Vader and ordered all Jedi dead?
Clone Wars producer Dave Filoni was about to answer that question when the Disney takeover happened and Clone Wars was cancelled in favor of a new series the Mouse had more control over, Star Wars Rebels. It took place a generation after Clone Wars. But since Filoni was also in charge of THAT show, he had the ability to bring an adult Ahsoka into it and continue her story there. The first season finale revealed she had survived, and had now joined the rebel alliance to take down her former master.
Ms. Tano has now appeared in nearly every Star Wars TV show since that point. It’s all come to this: Ahsoka’s own Disney+ show.
This new series will undoubtedly continue the story left off at the end of Rebels, which we won’t spoil here even though every other website has. Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla and Ezra Bridger, all Rebels characters, are confirmed to appear, which means you now have two and a half months to binge through the sixty-plus episodes of Rebels or risk confusion. I’m halfway through, and looking at this trailer below (which I can’t watch yet) I feel the pressure.
