The Venture Bros Movie Arrives July 25
The Venture Bros, one of the most brilliant adult cartoons of the 21st century, was unceremoniously silenced by an abrupt cancellation four years ago. The short of it is AT&T took control of Warner Bros, cancelled The Venture Bros, and then left, but not before running up a huge bill and leaving the building in the care of someone even worse than they were. Until then, the show was doing fine, if bring produced at a pace that even snails would find slow.
We would usually get one season of eight or so episodes every three years, and if we were lucky, we’d get some kind of special in between them. Before outside forces started monkeying around with Adult Swim, the channel was content to just let Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick do whatever they wanted, at the pace they wanted, because the end result was that good. In the end seven seasons and 82 episodes of The Venture Bros were made, but the show’s dense plotting never got to untangle itself.
It has that chance now, as Adult Swim presents the long-awaited Venture Bros wrap-up movie, confusingly called Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart. Here’s all WB will tell us: “Doc’s latest invention will either bankrupt Team Venture or launch them to new heights, as Hank searches for himself, Dean searches for Hank, the Monarch searches for answers, and a mysterious woman from their pasts threatens to bring their entire world crashing down on them.”
And if you think it’s airing on AS like it should, you’re wrong. The recent Aqua Teen movie didn’t debut there and it didn’t show up on Max either. The new WB doesn’t operate from logic. You can ONLY see the Venture Bros movie through buying it, at least for the time being. It comes to digital July 21 and Blu-Ray July 25 (we’re counting the Blu-Ray as the actual street date since we don’t trust Zaslav to keep our digital movies in access through perpetuity).
Have a fun trailer! Go Team Venture!
