All Elite Wrestling, or AEW for short, is a newcomer to the pro wrestling scene, but one that has found success on a level that previous challengers to WWE and WCW haven’t. The franchise started in 2018 when Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) broke from wrestling promotion Ring of Honor to hold their own independent wrestling event, which they dubbed (at the time) All In. It attracted attention and other wrestlers, and they decided to make a go of it by officially founding AEW.
Now the league has its own weekly show on TNT, and it’s about to grow even bigger. AEW Dynamite will be joined by AEW Rampage, a second series, later this summer. The show will be an hour long and run at 10 PM weekly on TNT. It might be getting a little crowded on that channel now, which is why AEW Dynamite has plans to move itself to sister station TBS next year.
“As a lifelong wrestling aficionado who is privileged to present AEW to longtime and new fans alike, it means a lot to me – personally and professionally – to share the news that All Elite Wrestling will call TBS home beginning in 2022,” says Tony Khan, CEO, GM and Head of Creative of AEW. “It’s a pleasure to be able to help Tony Khan expand his wrestling fiefdom across our networks and bring more content to our fans that fits the thrill ride brand of TNT and good time of TBS,” adds Sam Linsky, Associate General Manager, SVP, Programming and Operations, TBS, TNT and truTV. “It’s Wednesday. You know what that means.”
AEW Dynamite was the number one program on Wednesday, May 5, on cable among Adults 18-49. It currently airs Wednesdays at 5 PM Pacific / 8 PM Eastern on TNT.
