A Twitch MST3K Marathon Is In Your Not Too Distant Future
The streaming web service Twitch, normally known for hosting video game livestreams, has gotten attention recently for running marathons of quirky shows. Bob Ross may have not been the greatest tonal fit with the Twitch audience, but their next marathon selection definitely is: Mystery Science Theater 3000. Shout Factory, who currently holds the rights to the series, will be broadcasting 38 classic episodes nonstop over six days. The URL says “Shout,” not ‘MST3K,” so presumably more from their library is coming.
Unlike previous Twitch marathons, which have included such rarities as the entire run of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Mystery Science Theater 3000 isn’t exactly scarce. Back when the show was originally running fans were encouraged to tape episodes and “circulate” them. Shout has been a gracious host, giving the reruns plenty of exposure on their website, on YouTube and on digital subchannels. A marathon of selected episodes is streamed every Thanksgiving day. And of course, we just got a new season of the show earlier this year, with a new cast.
So if you miss the MST3K marathon on Twitch, there will probably be another one somewhere, and if not you can easily make your own. The mad experiment begins here on June 26 at 11 AM Pacific, 2 PM Eastern.
