Who could have predicted the “Office guy” would be making his living on suspense movies about aliens with sensitive hearing? John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place will be back for what is technically the third sequel, but actually the fourth movie. A prequel called Quiet Place: Day One appeared in 2024 to muddy up the continuity.
The original Quiet Place established the premise: Earth has been invaded by creatures from outer space that rely entirely on their hyperactive sense of hearing — they can’t see, and probably lack other senses, but get around and sense food entirely through sound. This means the surviving humans can only continue to survive by being as quiet as possible. This was pretty novel when it was first introduced to theaters, a place where you’re placed in a crowd and instructed to not make noise. The experience was built for this kind of story!
In the first film, Krasinski played the father of a family trying to sneak around in silence, with the most obvious curveball to their safety being his wife’s bulging belly. The dad lost his life trying to protect his new son, but the mother discovered the aliens’ weakness, which really should’ve been obvious: loud noises, of course. Because of his character’s fate Krasinski couldn’t appear in another Quiet Place movie, but the rest of the cast, including Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, have survived long enough to get to Movie #3.
The third Quiet Place, which will probably be called A Quiet Place Part 3, will also gain three new actors: Jack O’Connell, Jason Clarke, and Katy O’Brian. Krasinski remains writer, director and producer. Production is expected to begin later this spring, for a July 30 2027 release.
Meanwhile, the Quiet Place universe expands with IDW’s line of comics, which follow different families and communities. The first issue of the latest miniseries, Storm Warning, was written and drawn by Phil Hester with additional art by Ryan Kelly, and was released last week. “The creatures came for the cities first. But in Pearl, Iowa, a tiny island town on the Mississippi, the mayor and townsfolk believe that’s someone else’s problem,” IDW describes. “Cut off from the chaos of the coasts, they think they can ride out the storm. But fire chief Lonnie Fry knows better. The creatures that hunt by sound are coming west, and unless the people of Pearl take drastic action, silence won’t save them, it’ll bury them.”
