2014 Holiday Guide – Adult Games
Nintendo Wii U
Hyrule Warriors
This rather unique Wii U game is a crossover of the Dynasty Warriors series with Nintendo’s own The Legend of Zelda franchise. It takes the combat mechanics and general gameplay from the beat ’em up game and applies them to the Zelda universe, allowing characters like Link, Impa, Shiek and Princess Zelda to fight hordes of enemies throughout Hyrule. While it was not as well received as other Zelda games, Hyrule Warriors still provides plenty of fun and gives a different experience to fans of the series.
Bayonetta 2
Bayonetta 2 is the stylish hack and slash game that acts as a direct sequel to the original Bayonetta. Unlike its predecessor though, this installment is exclusive to the Wii U, giving the console a distinct action title that is filled with gorgeous visuals and intense fighting. Since its release in October, it has received critical acclaim from reviewers with special praise going to the replayability of it. Finally, as an added bonus it also comes packaged with the original game on the disc, giving you two games for the price of one.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
The 3DS version of the game has already been available since October and has seen a very positive reaction from fans and critics alike. With the Wii U version set to be more of the same, along with some additional features such as the ability to play with up to eight players at once, it looks like Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be another deserving entry in the series. The first time any Super Smash Bros. game has ever had high definition visuals, it is a must buy for any fans of the franchise or anyone who likes fighting games.
Mario Kart 8
Possible the stand-out game for the Nintendo Wii U, Mario Kart 8 is the latest entry in the hugely popular Mario Kart series. Featuring classic Nintendo characters facing off against each other in twisty race courses and the ability to wreak havoc using a variety of items, the game is one of the best racing titles available and is plenty of fun. If you know someone who likes to get their friends round for some fun with games, then Mario Kart 8 is an absolute must. Just make sure they don’t already have it.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
While not a brand new game, if anyone you know has recently invested in a Wii U then there is a good chance that they might not have picked up this gem yet. A direct sequel to Donkey Kong Country Returns, Tropical Freeze carries on the superb side-scrolling platforming that was first introduced in the series back on the SNES. It also introduces some new gameplay mechanics and the ability to play as Cranky Kong to keep things fresh and ensure that those who have played the predecessors can still get plenty of enjoyment out of it.
