Your New Fantastic Four Revealed

To say the Fantastic Four haven’t had much luck at the box office is putting it mildly — there have been three attempts so far at translating Marvel’s First Family to screen, the first of them so cheap and rushed that it entered bad movie infamy and its existence eventually became a plot point on Arrested Development. But now that Disney solidly owns the property, they can establish some quality control and push out the first non-embarrassing F4 adaption in history.

Today they announced all the roles have been cast, and they’re all people from your favorite shows and movies! Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, The Last Of Us) will lead charge as Reed, Vanessa Kirby (Mission Impossible: Fallout) has been cast as Sue, Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) is Johnny, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) will play The Thing. Here’s an artist’s rendering of what that should look like:

Based on elements of the drawing, we don’t expect the basic elements of their origin to change much. The Fantastic Four were a team of astronauts: science genius Reed Richards, his girlfriend Sue Storm, her brother Johnny Storm, and their friend Ben Grimm. One unlucky day they were bombarded with cosmic radiation — or maybe it was lucky after all, because when they returned to Earth they discovered they now had superpowers.

Reed can stretch his body (this is believed to be the reason why Marvel wouldn’t let Ms. Marvel stretch HER body; they didn’t want two stretchy people). Sue can turn invisible and cast shields, Johnny can shoot and manipulate fire, and Ben mutated into The Thing, a gruff rocky indestructible humanoid. Shortly afterward, this dictator in an iron mask named Dr. Doom started bothering the Earth and they had a reason to start using their powers.

Marvel’s Fantastic Four is currently scheduled to open in theaters July 25, 2025.

Well, isn't this casting news intriguing! Pedro Pascal leading the charge as Reed Richards? That's a choice I can get behind. His versatility showcased in The Mandalorian and The Last Of Us suggests he can bring depth to the role of the brilliant Mr. Fantastic. Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm? She's got the grace and strength to embody the Invisible Woman flawlessly. And let's not forget Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach rounding out the team as Johnny Storm and The Thing. This might just be the Fantastic Four adaptation we've been waiting for!

Pedro Pascal is someone I admire and hope the best for, but does he really need to play the lead in everything? The guy is always present in every place. Pedro is the only one that leaves me feeling "meh"; he's not Mr. Fantastic, but rather Multiple Man. Although he's a brilliant actor and I admire him, he's not a good fit for the roleβ€”especially since he's been in everything recently.

Finally, a Fantastic Four cast that seems promising! Pedro Pascal's portrayal of complex characters in The Mandalorian has undoubtedly earned him credibility as Reed Richards. And Vanessa Kirby's talent in Mission Impossible: Fallout hints at her ability to portray Sue Storm with the perfect balance of vulnerability and strength. As for Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, their past performances have me curious to see how they'll breathe life into Johnny Storm and The Thing. Let's hope this rendition lives up to the hype!

The Fantastic Four film adaption from 2015 was a disaster. And, while the decision to cast Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm sparked debate, I feel the problems with the film went much beyond casting choices. It lacked the heart and spirit of the original comics, instead opting for a harsh, disjointed story that failed to connect with readers. Regardless of the casting decisions, it ultimately failed to capture the essence of Marvel's First Family. Here's hope the new iteration avoids those mistakes and delivers the Fantastic Four adaption fans have been yearning for.

The Fantastic Four has had its share of ups and downs on the big screen. But this casting announcement has me intrigued. Pedro Pascal stars as Reed Richards? I can see it. His ability to represent nuanced characters makes him a fascinating choice. Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm lends a touch of elegance, while Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach provide their own spin on Johnny Storm and The Thing. It's shaping up to be an intriguing take on Marvel's legendary team.

Pedro has an extremely difficult role to fulfill; John Krasinski was a wonderful fit for the part, but I'm excited to see what he can accomplish. Reed is by far Marvel's biggest nerd, and I believe that people are skeptical that Pascal can carry it off because he's too skilled, too polished, and it doesn't seem natural. We'll see if he can pull off a Hugh Jackman moment or if he contributed to the downfall of FF. Hope this is better than the crap Fox created.

I think Reed's intelligence can be improved by using the 1960s scenario, which is a great concept considering the current state of nanotechnology. Moreover, the fact that Kang, a descendent of Reed, was influenced by his invention could help to explain the TVA's vintage appearance.

It's worth noting that successful casting doesn't always hinge solely on how closely an actor matches the character's established traits but also on their ability to bring something new and compelling to the role. Pascal's talent and versatility might offer a fresh interpretation of Reed Richards that resonates with audiences in unexpected ways.
