This week, Free League and the Alchemy Virtual Tabletop have teamed up to bring you VAESEN: A NORDIC HORROR WEEKEND — five days of free virtual gaming where anyone can play. The event starts today, the day Vaesen’s full content module officially becomes available on the Alchemy platform.
To play, all participants have to do is sign up on StartPlaying and head to the designated spot. “Experienced Gamemasters are ready to guide them through immersive mysteries within the Mythic North, regardless of their experience with Alchemy, Vaesen, or tabletop roleplaying games,” says Free League. In other words, if you’ve never tried this game, today’s the perfect opportunity.
Vaesen was first introduced in 2020 and has since gained spinoffs and expansions. The RPG’s world is based in Nordic folklore and the old myths of Scandinavia, as well as the creations of Swedish illustrator and author Johan Egerkrans. In Vaesen, you and your friends play paranormal investigators in the 19th century who happen to be somewhat paranormal themselves. You have the gift known as “the Sight” which means you can spot extradimensional phenomena that would be invisible to most people. Usually, this will take the form of horrible monsters you’ll be forced to do battle with. But it’s all in a day’s work.
Vaesen joins Ruins of Symbaroum and MÖRK BORG as Free League titles available at Alchemy, but Vaesen will be the first Year Zero Engine game with full mechanical support on the platform. Free League is working on briging Tales From the Loop and Coriolis there as well.
