Throne of Thorns Announced For Ruins of Symbaroum 5E

Two new expansions are on the way for Free League‘s TTRPG Ruins of Symbaroum, and one is so big this isn’t even all of it. The new campaign book The Throme Of Thorns will be released in two halves — only Part 1 has been announced for release.

Let’s cover Throne of Thorns first. Part 1 is compatible with the 5E ruleset and the Ruins of Symbaroum core rulebooks (you’ll need one of them). The hardcover book will be over 200 pages long, pack lots of color illustrations, and contain the following:

  • The two full-length adventures Wrath of the Warden and The Witch Hammer, for characters of levels 7–9.
  • More than 20 color maps, detailing adventure locations in towns, forests, and ruins.
  • Over 50 stat blocks, covering non-player characters of different types – monsters, potential allies or adversaries, as well as famous/notorious individuals.
  • A dozen journey events that can be used to make the characters’ travels in the forest even more exciting.
  • A dozen handouts to be used during play, offering important information for social challenges and problem-solving.

The World of Symbaroum, is an expansion of the lore found in the Gamemaster’s Guide and contains intricate details about seven adventure landscapes centered around ruins in the forest of Davokar, among other things.

  • A player’s section, introducing the game world’s main settlements – Thistle Hold, Yndaros and Karvosti – in great detail.
  • An in-depth look at the main settlements’ history, memorable events, factions, conflicts, and establishments.
  • A Gamemaster’s section describing what hides beneath the surface, with 18 historical secrets and 34 plot hooks.
  • Seven adventure landscapes for characters of 5th to 10th level, complete with conflicts, events, maps, and colorful NPCs.

Both The Throne Of Thorns Part 1 and The World of Symbaroum are open for pre-order at the Free League webshop. Those who put down cash will gain early access to digital advance PDFs of the books. They’re both scheduled for rele ase sometime this spring.

This Throne of Thorns announcement has me absolutely hyped! The fact that it's compatible with the 5E ruleset is a game-changer. I can't wait to dive into Wrath of the Warden and The Witch Hammer – two full-length adventures for levels 7-9. The 200+ pages and over 50 stat blocks promise an epic journey. Interesting move making it compatible with 5E. I've always been a Ruins of Symbaroum fan, and the inclusion of more than 20 color maps and 50 stat blocks has me intrigued. The tactical possibilities seem endless, and those journey events will add a dynamic element to gameplay. I'm eager to see how the adventures in towns, forests, and ruins unfold with these new tools at our disposal.

I'm a bit cautious about the 5E compatibility. Ruins of Symbaroum has its own unique feel, and I hope this doesn't dilute it. That said, the promise of 200+ pages and detailed adventure landscapes is intriguing. I'll keep an eye on early reviews before deciding if I want to add this to my collection. Anyone else feeling a tad uncertain about the 5E integration?
