The Whale -Brendan Fraser’s ticket to an Oscar

The Whale was a runaway winner during the  79th Venice International Film Festival. Brendan Fraser performance got an impressive six minute standing ovation. It is a movie from A24 so it guaranteed to have a groundbreaking story. Directed by Darren Aronofsky who redeemed himself after making the critical bomb, Mother!.

Brendan Fraser was a box office heartthrob in the 1990s and early 2000s, but injuries sustained while filming “The Mummy 4” proved to be a detriment to his career. It forced him to decline roles and it cost him opportunities.

He made his acting comeback in the DC Universe Extended Universe (DCEU) superhero show Doom Squad. With The Whale, he’s made a spectacular return to the big screen. This is the renaissance he has been waiting for after being put to the shelf for a long time.

People who only saw the trailer wants to yell, “Give him the Oscar!” Hong Chau and Sadie Sink are also outstanding in this masterpiece.

This film marks his return to the big screen in a leading role for a theatrical release. You can clearly see the range of feelings that he had as a result of the positive feedback he received from the attendees of the Venice film festival. Critics and Audiences  have nothing but gratitude for giving them that performance.

Fraser plays Charlie in this drama. Charlie is forced to live a life of humiliation and loneliness as a result of his selfish actions. To pursue his own happiness, he ended his marriage and gave custody of his daughter. He did that to be with his lover but his lover passed away because of circumstances out of his control.

It causes him to experience acute depression, which he copes with through his relationship with food. As a result of this, he gained so much weight that he currently weighs 600 pounds. He became a hermit as a result of his weight gain. He eventually decided to reconnect with his estranged daughter and beg her forgiveness after spending many years in hiding.

 

December 9, 2022 is the long awaited release date of the Whale.
