KS Pictures is releasing their new heist movie The Refuge in select theaters next month. The plot is described in simple terms — it’s about a getaway driver involved in a plot to steal cash from a casino. That is pretty much all we know right now. The trailer didn’t help us gather any other info.
KS calls it an “adrenaline-charged new crime thriller” and a “non-stop thrill ride,” but the trailer completely fails to sell any of that, showing nothing but the yet-to-be-named protagonist driving down the street. At least 50% of the footage is taken from the viewpoint of a windshield as the car progresses slowly down neon-filled avenues…nothing blows up, nobody yells at anyone else, none of the usual tropes are there. It’s just….this car, man.
We hope the actual movie is better than the promotion. As it is, KS is just limply throwing it out there.
The Refuge stars Keith Sutliff (The Mason Brothers), Julien Cesario (Close Range), Matthew Webb (127 Hours), Reine Swart (The Lullaby), Stefanie Estes (Bethany), Demeterius Stear (Death Pool), Martin Copping (“Hawaii Five-O”) and Cheyenne Buchanan (A Dark Place). Sucliff also wrote and directed the movie.
The Refuge will be out in selected theaters June 28.
