The Owl House Series Finale Airs April 8
When The Owl House closes its talking-owl-embedded door for good next month, it won’t just mark the end of a series both mega-popular AND unappreciated, it’ll mark the end of an era. Ten years ago Gravity Falls hit and revolutionized what a Disney Channel cartoon could be, wrapping intricate, captivating lore and mystery with intelligent writing and dialogue. It inspired a killer lineup of animation innovation that Disney hadn’t been into since the Disney Afternoon days. The Owl House is the last of these, and it’s being thrown away in favor of a new lineup of loud, bug-eyed thingamajigs aimed at a younger audience.
But we’ve got one unseen hour to go. The Owl House’s third season is much smaller than the previous two, consisting of three TV specials: “Thanks To Them,” “For The Future,” and now, “Watching And Waiting.” Just in case no one has pointed this out to you yet, if you line up the first words in all three of these specials, you get the message “THANKS FOR WATCHING.” It’s a hidden message they knew only true fans would find. We’re gonna miss these people.
When we last left Luz Noceda and her friends, they were facing two enemies at once, either of which could mean the destruction of the Boiling Isles: the powerful childlike Collector and the resurrected bloblike Belos. There are no real hints in the trailer below as to how they’ll be defeated, but we’re confident Luz will find a way. She has a new cat-snake friend now!
The Owl House: Watching And Waiting airs on the Disney Channel around 9:25 AM on April 8, but if you miss it there, it will be added to the official YouTube channel mere hours later.
