The Flame Fatales Return This Sunday

Games Done Quick has a spinoff group consisting of all-female speedrunners called Frame Fatales. Twice yearly, they run their own charity marathon for GDQ with a seasonally appropriate name — in winter they’re the Frost Fatales; in summer they’re the Flame Fatales. Mere days from now, the “flame” variant will commence once again.

As it did last time, Flame Fatales 2023 will benefit the Malala Fund — a non-profit that works to secure free, safe, and quality education for girls around the world. Last year’s Flame Fatales raised over $137,000 for Malala.

Flame Fatales is not a 24-hour marathon; each day will begin at around 9:30 AM Pacific / 12:30 PM Eastern and conclude twelve hours later at 9:30 PM / 12:30 AM. But a lot will be packed into those seven days: on Day 1 you can expect runs of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, Sonic Adventure, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky and Zelda: Link to the Past; Day 2 has Resident Evil 4 Remake, Kirby’s Dream Land and the potential bonus game F.E.A.R., Day 3 will feature Pokemon Blue, Super Metroid and Dr. Mario; Day 4 has VA11 Hall-A, Sonic Mania and Cadence of Hyrule.

Day 5’s got the original Final Fantasy, Link’s Awakening DX (randomized), Cassette Beasts and Fable: The Lost Chapters; Day 6 will feature Fire Emblem Engage, Final Fantasy X, Breath of the Wild (and maybe Tears of the Kingdom if stretch goals are met), and the final day will have Super Mario Odyssey, Pokemon Scarlet / Violet and Resident Evil Village. Plus, many many other games we didn’t list here! Check out the schedule for the full lineup.

You can tune into Flame Fatales starting this Sunday, August 13, on the Twitch website or anything that has a Twitch app. The event will run through the evening of August 20.

They're playing fast-paced games while generating funds to assist females attend school. Education is a one-way ticket to a brighter future. They raised almost $137,000 for the Malala Fund last year, which is a lot! Some of the games they're playing, such as Sonic Adventure and Pokemon, are among my favorites. I've marked my calendar for this Sunday since the Twitch stream will be my go-to location for a whole week of enjoyment and doing good.

Flame Fatales sounds like an awesome way to play games and make a positive impact. I'm amazed how they're using their gaming skills to help girls get education. Last year's donation of $137,000 to the Malala Fund shows how powerful gaming can be for good causes. I'm excited to see them speedrun games like Pokemon and Zelda, it's like watching a race with a purpose. Starting this Sunday, I'm definitely tuning in on Twitch to support Flame Fatales and their mission.

I use to stream games but the moment they hear my voice is female, people started to become creepy so I stopped. I just play on the privacy of my home

Why do men have a weird obsession of watching women play videogames?

The women in their life like their girlfriend, mom, sister, wife, female cousin are not gamers and looks down on gaming, so seeing this cool tomboy who happens to look good tickles their fancy.

Wow, Flame Fatales sounds amazing! I've always loved watching speedruns, and knowing that this group is all about helping girls get education makes it even cooler. Last year they raised so much money, over $137,000, that's like a ton of ice cream! And the games they're gonna play, like Sonic Adventure and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, are some of my favorites. I can't wait to watch them play and support the Malala Fund. It's gonna be a whole week of fun starting this Sunday, and I'm totally gonna tune in on Twitch.

I believe that supporting the Malala Fund is critical, especially at this time when circumstances are difficult for Afghan girls. Education is a superpower that allows girls to dream big and improve their lives. It's fantastic to see Flame Fatales contributing to the charity. It's a modest step in the right direction for those girls. Let us stand with them and support the cause.
