Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin — The Covers Announced For June

You thought we’d seen the last of The Last Ronin, the lost Ninja Turtles story that Kevin Eastman and IDW resurrected last year. But it sold well. REALLY well. New York Times bestseller list well. Well enough for an additional book consisting of just the series’ covers to be a thing.

IDW has announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin — The Covers for next summer. It will contain the art stylings of Eastman, Last Ronin co-artists Esau & Isaac Escorza and Ben Bishop, Mateus Santolouco, Sophie Campbell, Freddie E. Williams II, Rick and Morty’s Justin Roiland, Peach Momoko, Tyler Kirkham, John Giang, Amanda Conner, Rob Liefeld, Simon Bisley, Stan Sakai, and more.

You might be asking, how many covers can one five-volume series possibly have, even taking variants into account? Well, this book is over 200 pages long. The Last Ronin definitely did not have 200 variant covers so we suspect there will be a bit more in there.

“This book is a celebration of all those artists who contributed to the world of The Last Ronin, giving us a glimpse of the Ronin’s world through many different perspectives,” says Bishop. “I’m so glad that all these works of art will now live in this one cover collection for fans who may not have been able to grab the issue itself but especially for the artists who created them. Personally, I just can’t wait to bring it around to conventions and track down every single signature!”

TMNT: The Last Ronin takes place in a dark alternate future where one solitary Turtle, the last of his kind, goes on a quest for vengeance against those who have taken his family and friends. The second printing should be in comic shops now; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin — The Covers will be out in the summer of 2023.
