Tales From The Loop Is Back With A New Expansion
Why, oh why, has Netflix never allowed an official Stranger Things tabletop RPG? Or if they do allow it, why has no one taken up that offer? It feels like the most no-brainer product tie-in in the world. The show is one giant advertisement for tabletop games. We imagine plenty of people have watched the show and then visited their local hobby shops for the first time. That’s a lot of money left on the table. It’s nearly as bad as….NOT releasing the sequel to Knives Out in theaters for longer than three days.
But the absence of such a product has allowed other companies to fill the hole with TTRPGs that have similar premises, if not the same characters. It’s allowed Free League’s Tales From The Loop, about kids from the 80s encountering monsters after school, to become a full-fledged hit. Big enough for Amazon to attempt to make a TV series out of it to chase their own ST, but no one noticed that show existed.
The game is still thriving, though. A new expansion hits shelves soon. Called They Grow Up So Fast, it’s a hardcover book that contains a four-part campaign taking place in the UK Loop of Norfolk Broads. If you’d rather set the game somewhere else, there are instructions to adapt the scenarios for the Swedish or US Loops. The new adventures are brought to life with never-before-seen art, maps and handouts.
Everything changed on that fateful day. Looking back, I know that whatever we did changed our lives forever. The sky ruptured and something strange came through. It was a great adventure that showed us how little we knew about the universe. It was scary and yet magical. I wish we could do it again.
In these four adventures, that together forms a campaign spanning the seasons of a year, the Kids will be tested to the limits of their abilities. When an ordinary camping trip turns into something else, they will discover that friends come in all sizes and forms, and even from different worlds. Together they will go on an adventure they will never forget.
Tales From The Loop: They Grow Up So Fast is now available for preorder at the Free League webstore. Those who do so will gain immediate access to the PDF version of the book.
