There’s a lot of Persona coming our way, suddenly. News leaked yesterday of two titles coming to consoles soon: a remake of Persona 3 and a Persona 5 spinoff game called Persona 5 Tactica. In the latter, you move stylized P5 characters on a grid, position them strategically, and attack with turn-based moves. It’s much like XCOM or those games where Mario meets the Rabbids.
The good news is, the most beloved titles in the Persona series are about to finally become playable outside of the walls of Sony hardware. The bad news is, we don’t mean on Switch.

The PC Gaming Show was streamed live early this morning, and the biggest announcement of the day was the surprise release of Persona 4 Golden on PC. Yes, it’s an older game, but it’s an excellent one and it’s become hard to find.
It’s going to be an eventful summer for manga publisher VIZ Media. The first volume of the official RWBY manga is coming out, as is the seventh volume of Beastars and new books based on the video games Persona and Splatoon. Next month, ask your local small bookseller if any of these are in…they will appreciate the business.
We’ve known for quite some time that Atlus was working on an “enhanced” version of Persona 5; we just didn’t know what would be in it or what systems it’d appear on. Today the first lengthy trailer for Persona 5: The Royal, or Persona 5r, was revealed, along with a Japanese release date (Halloween 2019) and a Western release window (sometime in 2020).
Nintendo surprise-dropped a video covering the release of Smash Bros Ultimate Version 3.0 to the Web this evening. The video was 15 minutes long and could have easily been its own Direct, but….we know by now that to call Nintendo unpredictable would be an understatement.
Rumors that something called “Persona 5 R” was on the way have been confirmed. Atlus uploaded a short teaser to YouTube this morning….30 seconds in length, and revealing its existence.
There’s been a lot of rumors recently about what will, and what won’t, be coming to the Nintendo Switch at both launch, and in the coming months. With just a little over a week until the big Switch event, these are no doubt going to intensify. However, some confirmations are coming through as well. Even if they’re confirmations about games that won’t be coming to the system
Atlus has released the first gameplay trailer for Persona 5.
ATLUS Japan over the course of the last three days has been hosting a three-day countdown relating to the critically acclaimed Persona video game series. Popular in Japan, the series has spawned a cult audience Stateside with Persona 3 and to a greater extent Persona 4.
It seems like 2013 is not a good year for game companies. We have yet another giant publisher going out of business and this time, it is all the way over from Japan. Persona/Shin Megami Tensei developer ATLUS‘ parent company, Index Corporation has recently filed for bankruptcy due to a debt of 24.5 billion yen (approximately 250 million USD).(more…)
