On the occasion of International Talk Like A Pirate Day, Free League has released PIRATE BORG, their nautical spinoff of the gritty artpunk RPG MORK BORG. Several expansions have been created for MORK BORG, but this is the first third-party expansion created by someone else with Free League’s blessing. PIRATE BORG takes the world of MORK BORG and enhances it for the high seas.
What’s a PIRATE BORG — a cultist from space with cybernetic implants who has a peg leg and a parrot? Yes, but it’s also the name of a tabletop RPG spinoff.
February 28th, 2023, saw the release of the IKHON expansion for the acclaimed TTRPG MÖRK BORG. If you don’t know what MÖRK BORG is let me be the first to tell you, it is not for the faint of heart. First released in 2020, MÖRK BORG burst its way onto the tabletop roleplaying scene and made a splash immediately. The game designers aim to provide a game that is light on rules but a brutal challenge in every other facet. The game’s core rules fit on one page and character creation should only take a few minutes. This is good because a few minutes is also the average life expectancy of your character. MÖRK BORG takes place in a dying world, where a two-headed Basilisk prophesied the end of the world is on its way. The world is now riddled with apocalyptic calamities for players to contend with. MÖRK BORG went on to win multiple awards at the ENNIES and even picked up silver for the game of the year.
There is more of Free League’s hit artpunk RPG MORK BORG as of today! MORK BORG: IKHON is an expansion to the main game that comes with an illustrated book depicting the dark creatures players will encounter in the sketchy, grungy MORK BORG style.

Two years ago Free League released MORK BORG, a tabletop RPG with a dark and grungy artpunk style. It didn’t sell Alien RPG numbers, but it reached cult level, which was enough to get more of it greenlit. Behold the expansion: MORK BORG Cult: Heretic.

Despite the odds against them, Free League managed to get many games out there in 2020, and found success with some. The Alien RPG (based on the 20th Century Fox series) was released precisely a year ago and grew to become one of the most successful tabletop products of 2020. An expansion set, Destroyer Of Worlds, was released along with a Starter Set in the spring. A virtual tabletop version of the Starter Set was added to the VTT platforms Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds in October, and a second expansion was announced earlier this month.
Earlier this year Free League brought out NORK BORG, the first tabletop game published under their Free League’s Workshop label (a sublabel for externally developed games, as well as a website for fan-created scenarios).
Today is the day you can MORK BORG your head off, as the first tabletop game to be published under Free League’s Workshop label (a new sublabel for externally developed games, as well as a website for fan-created scenarios) becomes available.
