I was first introduced to my newest interview subject, Rich Manley, by Charles Sherman, the manager who helped set up my interview with Amy Stoch earlier this year. Rich Manley is an actor, martial artist and magician, among other skills, and he’ll soon be launching a new series on Tubi TV called Culture Shock, where he takes his magic skills all over the world and uses them to connect with other cultures. It’s a wrap on Kung Fu Ghost! The indie martial arts comedy has finished shooting and now its existence is inevitable. You can thank Jennifer N. Linch, who made the film her personal pet project. She directed it, starred in it, and she’s the founder and CEO of the company making it, Nameless Studio.
There are a lot of independent films getting made these days. Perhaps few films are quite as personal as martial arts comedy, Kung Fu Ghost. The film is in the process of being brought into existence through the sheer will of Jennifer N. Linch. She’s directing it. She stars in it, and she’s the founder and CEO of the company making it, Nameless Studio.
A couple years back, kickboxing champion Don Wilson created The Martial Arts Kid, a family film about the dangers of bullying. It was a completely independent production financed through crowdfunding. The finished product ended up being a success, and Wilson is about to follow it up with The Martial Arts Kid 2: Payback! In the sequel Wilson says he would like to “show how martial arts can be applied to real-world situations that are more serious and adult” while at the same time keeping the tone “wholesome.”
This next interview came about in a rather unusual, but cool, way. As a writer, I normally reach out to the people I want to interview. Sometimes I get a positive response. Other times, the person I want to interview is too busy. In the case of my next interview subject, a recently added Facebook friend named Joe Williamson asked if I would be interested in interviewing actor Mel Novak.

Several months ago, a director by the name of Kevin Tancharoen uploaded a proposal trailer for a Mortal Kombat movie reboot. Some didn’t like the re-imagining, but most loved it. We won’t be getting a movie, yet, but thanks to Warner Brothers and Machinima.com, Tancheroen will be making a MK web series similar to his original trailer.
