The zombie survival game DayZ has received a new update this week. QoL improvements, more craftable items and the return of a fan favorite event are the highlights.
Look for new items to craft like a cookware stand, a bone knife (made from bones, natch), a gas mask filter and a belt made from rope. The gas mask filter can be refilled with charcoal tablets, but they can become damaged over time, at which point you can just make another one.New items to find include a meat tenderizer, a cleaver, and a pitchfork.
Also: DayZ’s popular Walpurgis Night event is returning. From now through May 9, you’ll find infected witches and burning bonfires all over the map. You can spread the fire by lighting a Birch Broom, turning it into a weapon (this will only work during the event). Items you can earn during Walpurgis include a Witch Hat, Hood, Cauldron, and Crooked Nose. It all goes away May 9 so get your witch on while you can.
DayZ’s full update notes lie below.
Quality of life improvements
New control & sensitivity settings
Offering players the ability to adjust the sensitivity of their controls in different scenarios such as aiming, moving, and steering.
Upgrades to control scheme for controllers and the addition of an alternative control scheme.
VOIP’s UI Upgrade
Icons being shown only while transmitting, a release delay for the push-to-talk mode, and the ability to change the VOIP distance on a controller.
New craftable items
Survivors new fashion
Improvised gas mask filter, a belt out of rope, a cookware stand for a fireplace, and a whole new set of improvised clothing made out of rags.
Bones can now be used to craft a bone knife. Stone knife crafting has been revised. Both types of blades can be used to make an improvised spear.
Other non-craftable items & weapons
New melee weapons such as a meat tenderizer, a cleaver, and a pitchfork.
A handful of civilian firearms like the CR-550 Savanna – a powerful .308 hunting bolt-action rifle, the .308 Longhorn pistol, and the legendary P1 9mm pistol.
Other feature improvements
Gas mask filters can now be refilled with charcoal tablets. But be careful because they can also be damaged over time.
Cookware can suffer damage with extended use, and heat sources such as torches, vehicles, and power generators are now able to increase a player’s heat comfort.
Minor updates were also added to both official terrains, and rumor has it there will be much bigger changes coming to Livonia later this year!
