Supergirl Producer Explains Invasion Tie-In
The CW has been promoting for awhile the crossover event Invasion, which will feature Supergirl, Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow in a first-time ever for the network crossover. However, those who watched “part 1” of the crossover tonight might have felt bamboozled. As the “crossover” was nothing more than a regular episode of Supergirl, with the arrival of Barry Allen and Cisco Ramon at the end to show the actual event starting.
During a Q&A screening of Invasion, IGN got to hear from the producers behind the shows. One of them, Andrew Kreisberg, explained why the crossover was so limited in Supergirl:
“Part of what made it a little bit difficult was all the other shows – Flash, Arrow and Legends — all have a subsequent episode to the crossovers, but with Supergirl, it was our midseason finale,” he said. “We wanted to make sure that episode 8 of Supergirl spoke to what had been happening on the first seven episodes of Supergirl and not just as a tie in.”
He went on to note that logistics was the biggest factor in not getting the full crossover in the episode:
“The idea of going to four full shows, I’m not sure we could have pulled off logistically speaking.”
They did finish off though by saying that now that Supergirl is with Flash and crew, the real crossover has begun, and Supergirl has a big role to play. Invasion continues tomorrow with The Flash at 8/7c on the CW.
