Sturmwind: A New Game For Dreamcast

The Dreamcast was one of the greatest consoles ever made, proving itself by amassing an amazing library in less than half the time of a typical game machine (because that’s about how long it had). Ever since, it’s been up to the homebrew community to keep things going.

One of the more recent Dreamcast homebrews is the space shooter Sturmwind, which is getting a physical release thanks to the folks at VGNYSoft. Sturmwind contains sixteen levels across seven varied worlds, over 100 enemy types and twenty massive bosses to shoot down. Modern conveniences include an achievement system and a list of bonuses to unlock as you play.

Some homebrews are only developed with the system of the programmer’s native country in mind, but this won’t be the case with Sturmwind. The game is region free and contains modes to support both the 60HZ refresh rate of American televisions and the 50HZ rate of European ones. It is also compatible with HDMI and VGA cables, if you’ve got ’em.

VGNYSoft will be releasing Sturmwind in two forms: a standard edition with the game disc in a basic Dreamcast-like jewel case, and a Limited Edition that also includes a 24 page booklet and a VMU shell with a black D-pad and silicone pad. Only 500 of the Limited Edition will be made, with no plans to reprint.
