Every year, Fathom Events lines up a row of Studio Ghibli movies and picks a weekend or two each month to individually screen them. Some movies only reappear from Fathom on the bluest of moons, but Ghibli is a reliable enough attraction to always generate a crowd.
The lineup for 2023’s Ghibli Fest has just been announced, and the full schedule posted. There is one weird curveball this time: Spirited Away isn’t the movie you’re thinking of, but a Japanese stage play adaption of the same.
My Neighbor Totoro, which turns 35 this year (eek), will be screened over five nights, March 25 through March 29.
The aforementioned Spirited Away: Live On Stage will be screened on two nights, April 23 and April 27.
Ponyo, which turns 15, will follow on May 7, 8 and 10.
Kiki’s Delivery Service flies in as the June attraction and will screen on the 11th, the 12th and the 14th of that month.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind returns to theaters July 9 and July 11.
Castle in the Sky will share space with Nausicaa, with screenings dated July 10 and July 12.
Princess Mononoke defends the forest again for five nights, from August 5 through August 9.
Porco Rosso is offered during the dog days, on August 20 and August 22.
The Wind Rises, the youngest Ghibli in this year’s lineup, screens August 21 and August 23.
Howl’s Moving Castle will be back for five nights in September, from the 23rd through the 27th.
And finally….oh, I guess the original Spirited Away made it this year after all. It will be offered from October 28 through November 1.
