Strategy Adventure Drone Swarm Invades Steam
451 Media and stillalive studios have released their sci-fi strategy adventure game, Drone Swarm, onto Steam this week.
Who’s the Drone Swarm? It’s you…and it’s also who you want revenge against. Earth was once habitable until the year 2118, when the Swarm arrived from space and attacked civilization. Earth’s human population was decimated, but developed psionic abilities to survive against the swarm and even control it. Now the immediate threat is over, but humans want to take the fight to them….using them!
So they’ve built the Argo, the world’s first faster-them-light spaceship. You play as Captain Cargo, the ships commander. You’ll decide where to go and how to battle the aliens with your massive army of man-controlled drones (32,000 in all!) The war won’t be a simple one….the enemies you encounter will be varied and diverse, and each battle will require unique strategies to defeat.
The game is also a multimedia experience: 415 Media is producing a series of Drone Swarm comics that will flesh out the narrative behind the battles.
Drone Swarm is out today for PC via Steam, in two different versions: the Standard Edition, which costs $24,.99, and the Deluxe Edition which adds the first issue of the comic (digital version), two additional weapon upgrades and the soundtrack. For this week only, the Deluxe Edition will cost the same as the Standard Edition.
In Drone Swarm, you slip into the role of Captain Carter, the commander of the Argo, mankind’s only FTL ship. On your journey into the depths of an unknown galaxy, your main mission is to jump from system to system and battle powerful alien fleets in action-packed space battles. To this end, you need to take control of the impressive swarm of 32,000 individually simulated drones. Destroy enemy vessels, slam them into one another, block attacks and outsmart defenses. Quickly analyze attacks of your adversaries in order to develop the best defense strategy and to launch a strong counterattack.
