Netflix is currently sending out a series of press announcements it calls “Geeked Week” — there will be something new revealed about a popular Netflix series every day. Wednesday was the day for Stranger Things and the company’s announcement was four unrevealed characters for Season 4. New characters were already announced for this season months ago, but apparently that wasn’t enough. And we’re talking about Stranger Things here; the most recent season (from 2019) barely had any time to squeeze in the zillions of characters it has already.
In addition, the official descriptions for them sound kinda dry:
- Patrick, “a Hawkins basketball star who has friends, talent, and a good life…until shocking events send his life spiraling out of control.”
- Chrissy, the “Hawkins’ High lead cheerleader and the most popular girl in school. But beneath the seemingly perfect surface lies a dark secret.”
- Ms. Kelly, “a popular guidance counselor who cares deeply for her students — especially those struggling the most.”
- Vickie, “a cool, fast talking band nerd who catches the eye of one of our beloved heroes.”
We’re guessing it’s Dustin that gets Vickie, through the process of elimination. Mike has El, Lucas has Max, and if Will isn’t revealed as gay then Twitter will roast the Duffers on a spit, so….that only leaves Dustin.
With each new character comes the risk that the audience won’t accept them, and then they’ll get angry as those characters take up airtime their favorites could be using. It’s true that a lot of these extraneous characters are more than likely going to end up down the maw of a Demogorgon, but even still….Stranger Things has a problem. You need to wean yourself off this addiction and stop drowning the show in extra people. Enjoy what you have!
