TWO Spider-Men?? What is this madness? It’s Into The Spider-Verse, Sony’s upcoming animated Spider-Man movie — and the first big-screen appearance of Miles Morales.

If you’re not familiar with him, Miles became Spider-Man in the “Ultimate Spider-Man” books Marvel launched as a separate continuity. Eventually the Ultimate line was cancelled and its most popular characters were ported over to the main Marvel universe, which means there are currently two Spider-Men swinging around — but that’s not what’s happening here.

In the Ultimate books, Miles took over from Peter Parker when he died (well, temporarily….that’s comics for you). In this movie, Miles is the first Spider-Man — in his own universe. And this time, Parker is the visitor…we don’t know yet how he got there, but he’s willing to show Morales the ropes. Or the silk threads, as it were.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse utilizes a unique animation style that looks like it’s meant to emulate the feel of a comic book. It looks much like the animation from The Lego Movie (which producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller were involved in).

There is a BIG surprise near the end of the trailer that we won’t discuss until after you’ve viewed it…

So what do you think of Gwen? Also, why the heck is she introducing herself with her real name WHILE in costume? Good to see they’re taking full advantage of the “Spider-Verse” potential; who else could show up now? Perhaps a pig?

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse will be opening in theaters this Christmas.
