Earlier today, IGN spoke with Sony Computer Entertainment America’s CEO and President Jack Tretton about the upcoming year for Sony.

In the interview they spoke about the PSVita (being released next week) but also the rumors circulating of a next-generation console (Namely: PlayStation 4) to be announced later this year.  Mr. Tretton iterated that Sony is always talking about looking forward towards the next big thing.

He went on to say that when announcing a new platform and the timing of it: it depends on how well the current sytem is doing.
…we’re focused on PlayStation 3, and I’ve got another platform (PlayStation Vita) to get out the door in seven days, so I don’t want to be thinking about trying to launch new technology anytime soon. I want to focus all our energy on our console business, which is really just hitting its stride, and Vita, which really deserves a dedicated push from us.
Furthermore: the Executive Deputy President of Sony, Kazuo Hirai spoke at CES; he also fully declined any rumors of announcements at E3.
Andy (House) is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3; I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that
