SimRaceWay releases their own motion based steering wheel
Steel Series and SimRaceWay have co-developed an innovative new steering wheel specially made for the online racing game… but yes, it can be used for other racing games too.
Steel Series have just released the SRW-S1 steering wheel and it is probably the new contender for the award of “controller with the most buttons,” if such a thing existed. It is a completely hand-held motion based controller, and 15 buttons, 3 dial switches, 4 paddle switches, and a 4-way direction pad round out it’s functionality. That’s an impressive list of included controls for a single gaming device.
Now while it does look flashy and technical, it remains to be seen as to whether gamers will take to the concept of steering in the air and controlling acceleration and braking with pedals on the steering wheel itself. With a price tag of $119 USD, it is uncertain whether it can compete with the current flock of mounted steering wheels, especially when it does not appear to incorporate any force-feedback.
Regardless though, it is always nice to see hardware and game designers working together.
