SUMMARY: After leaving prison, Cha Woo-sol strives to rebuild his life as a professional MMA fighter. But a ruthless underground gang boss draws him into a brutal world of illegal combat.
In “Shark: The Storm”, after serving time in prison for an unfair attempted murder charge, Cha Woo-Sol is released. Sadly, freedom is not the peaceful “normal” life he hoped for. Instead, Cha Woo-Sol returns to a society that still views him through the tainted lens of his criminal record. What can he do? He can’t control people and their attitudes. But he can control himself. He suffered violence in school and survived violence behind bars. He’s still standing. Could the outside world be much worse?
Cha Woo-Sol is determined to overcome, so he starts rebuilding his life. He survived; now he must strive to live a meaningful life. He begins training diligently in MMA (mixed martial arts), and dreams of a legitimate fighting career. Those early days are filled with quiet resolve: early morning runs and sweat-dripping gym sessions. It was like he drew his inspiration from Rocky Balboa. Of course, he still has emotional scars of a past that won’t stay buried, but he muscles through.
Just when he begins to carve a steady routine, a dark force emerges: Hyun Woo-Yong. He’s a ruthless power player in Korea’s underground MMA circuits. He’s a gang boss and fight promoter who controls illegal martial arts rings. Hyun Woo-Yong believes Cha Woo-Sol can be a fighter who makes him a lot of money. He sees a young man with raw power, a tortured past, and the emotional volatility to make each fight unpredictable. Hyun Woo-Yong attempts to lure Cha Woo-Sol into his illegal martial arts rings. He promises fame, money, and all the rest of the “trappings” to tempt him. But Cha Woo-Sol refuses because he wants to carve a legitimate path. Hyun Woo-Yong would make him a pawn and exploit him like he does all of the other fighters.
At least Cha Woo-Sol does not have to walk his path alone. He has loyal friends and fellow fighters. Cha Woo-Sol and Hyun Woo-Yong become mirrors of each other: one shaped by vengeance and chaos, the other by controlled discipline and upright ambition. Their encounters, when they come, are visceral and symbolic. Not simply physical fights, but questions about what it means to claim power without losing oneself. The world expects Cha Woo-Sol to fail. After all, he has a criminal record for attempted murder. Can he rise above that? Shark: The Storm isn’t just the next fight in Cha Woo-Sol’s life, it’s the crucible that defines him.
Where to Watch (still waiting for USA availability – sneak peek on platforms like DailyMotion)
My personal rating is the same as Dramabeans.
“Shark: The Storm” is the 6-episode sequel to “Shark: The Beginning”.
The sequel tells me that LIFE SUCKS. It’s bad enough that the poor kid went to prison and the bully walked free. Now he’s out of prison and still has to wrestle with lowlifes because he has a criminal record. Seriously! THAT SUCKS! Great action scenes though.
