♦ A K-Pop Idol Takes Part in a North-South Korean Peacetime Initiative
In “My Military Valentine”, as fantastic as it may seem, North and South Korea have been reunified and a peacetime initiative is underway. A city will be built to show that Koreans from the North and South can live together peacefully. A K-pop named Lloyd No will perform a concert in the DMZ. Finally! There will be peace in the Korean Peninsula. Or … ??? Or not! There is a group called Violet, and its mission is to disrupt any or all of the peacemaking efforts between the North and the South.
Lloyd is a K-pop idol with a demanding schedule and doesn’t get much opportunity to socialize. He likes to play video games and ordered a toy gun. He made arrangements in the parking garage of a building but had to sneak away from his watchers to pick it up. At the same time, in that same parking garage, a group of North Korean soldiers in a secret group called Violet who are against plans for peacetime initiatives, and North Korean soldiers who are participants in peace efforts show up. There is a misunderstanding because Lloyd is caught holding a gun, albeit it’s a toy gun. North Korean special forces soldier Baek Yeong Ok steps in to capture him.
Adding to the misunderstanding, the interactions between Lloyd and Baek Yeong Ok are misinterpreted by idol fans as a romantic relationship. Nothing could be further from the truth. But the truth does not matter since Lloyd’s fans are upset. To calm them down, political officials and Lloyd’s promoters agreed that he should join the military. That way he could explain that Baek Yeong Ok was a fellow soldier, not a lover. Lloyd thought that his first interaction with Yeong Ok would be his last. But he was assigned to the military unit led by Yeong Ok. There was no way for them to avoid each other.
And yet another complication develops. It seems that one of the members of the secret group was the reason their mission to disrupt the peacetime initiative was not carried out smoothly. The member was a loyal fan of Lloyd and wanted to protect him, so she betrayed her comrades. Lloyd was taking part in military training exercises and accidentally crossed paths with his fan.
Recognizing that the young girl was in real danger and it wasn’t a training exercise, he tried to help her escape. Lloyd put on the girl’s pink jacket and fooled the Violet group members into chasing after him. Yeong Ok was chasing Lloyd because he was one of her soldiers. He fell into a body of water and she dived in to save him. Even though she was injured, she managed to rescue him. However, she passed out and he rescued her by putting her on his back and carrying her to a place of safety. When they both woke up they were in a hospital being treated.
Lloyd was angry because he realized the politicians and government officials intended to use him as a pawn. Yeong Ok on the other hand wanted to get back to performing her duty as a soldier. Lloyd does not know much about Yeong Ok’s background. In North Korea, she was specially trained with an elite group of soldiers. There are comrades she trained with whom she considers friends and she is loyal to them. Comrade Seong Jae-Hoon is one of those friends who came to see her at the hospital. He is from North Korea but he now talks and looks like a South Korean. But Seong Jae-Hoo is good at keeping up appearances.
Even though there is no romantic relationship between Lloyd and Yeong Ok, he instantly becomes jealous of the “competition”. After all, he had saved her life. She should smile at him the same way she smiles at her comrade. Lloyd decided he wanted to know more about this man who made Yeong Ok smile so easily. He didn’t even know she could smile since she was always angry and annoyed with him. Perhaps Lloyd hoped his relationship with Yeong Ok would go beyond being her subordinate.
