SDCC 2017: Supergirl Adds More Cast, Talks New Themes
At San Diego Comic Con, the cast of the CW’s Supergirl took the stage to talk about what will happen in the third season of the series. Not only that, many new characters have been revealed for the season.
In regards to Supergirl herself, she’s going to be going through a struggle of “what it means to be human”.
“The first two seasons, she’s trying to… figure out her identity,” Melissa Benoist said, “When we pick up on Season 3, the scale is leaning very heavily on Supergirl.”
Other characters going to go through major changes too. Jimmy Olsen will be returning to his comic book roots of sorts, but he will still be Guardian. Mon-El is going to return, but there’s a mystery as to how.
As for new characters, Adrian Pasdar (who has been on Heroes, Agents of Shield, and more) will be coming in as a rival to Lena Luthor as the head of a truly evil organization. And fans of the Justice League cartoon will be delighted to hear that Carl Lumbly, the voice of the Martian Manhunter, is coming in to play the father of the Supergirl version of Martian Manhunter.
“I’m very excited to be working with Carl. He’s a very cool actor, and I’m just very excited to be working with him on this show. It’s not an easy one. I think there’s going to be some complications [between J’onn and his father]… it’s going to be extraordinary to find that he’s not the last Green Martian, the other one is his father!” said David Harewood.
Supergirl returns to the CW on October 9th.
