SDCC 2017: Capaldi and Moffat Approve Of Jodie Whittaker Casting
This time last week, the entire world was buzzing about the casting of Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor on Doctor Who. Some were praising the decision BBC made, while others were throwing lines like “political agenda” and other insults at the casting. Many former Doctors and companions have weighed in on this, and at San Diego Comic Con, Peter Capaldi (the current Doctor) and Stephen Moffat (the showrunner) weighed in as well.
For Capaldi, he’s very happy for her, “Jodie is so full of excitement. It’s thrilling to know it’s in the hands of someone who cares for it so deeply. She’s a great choice.”
Moffat weighed in on the “controversy” that was arising on the internet, and he gave a very interesting statistic: “There have been all these articles about backlash, there is no backlash. There is 80% approval on social media and yet so many people wanting to make something up that’s not there.”
Capaldi and Moffat have one more episode in their tenure before moving on, and that’s the upcoming Christmas Special that’s been given the title “Twice Upon A Time”.
