Cartoon Brew revealed some amazing new promo artwork for the upcoming return of the Samurai Jack animated series to Cartoon Network. The image was revealed at the Annecy Festival D’Animation in France. You can check out the full image at the above link.
The new artwork shows a bearded and grizzled Jack covered in what appears to be blood. The show is slated to return later this year on the Toonami Block for Adult Swim/Cartoon Network. Production for the series is currently going on in Los Angeles, California. Genndy Tartakovsky is back to work on the show he created. Some other concept artwork from the festival also popped up online at the SHH forums. The images show an armored samurai, a samurai on a souped up motorcycle, and an image of an alien space tiger of some sort.
So far all the new images look very promising. Hopefully, the new series will finally resolve the series in a satisfying way that the original never did. Based on the new artwork, the new series will be much more darker, violent and intense than the original, based off Jack being covered in blood.
It’s hard to be unexcited about the return of Samurai Jack.
