Hulu announced today Runaways Season 2 will make its debut December 21 on the streaming platform. Season 1 was released one week at a time, but this season Hulu is dumping all 13 episodes at once.
Last time on Runaways, the cast of teens was….uh, about to get around to running away. In the comics this happened almost immediately, but under the executive producing of Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the min-arc was stretched out to excruciating length. Fortunately, Season 2 should begin with their actually being Runaways, with the stakes involved that made the original comic click.
As for hints to what happens next, there’s a mole within the group sending their parents messages….anyone who read the comics knows where that subplot is leading, but we have no idea if it’s the same culprit. We also have no idea when they plan to wrap that subplot up — our guess is in Season 7.
Ah, but there’s more….Savage says Season 2 will feature the “first real breadcrumb that connects us to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) in some way.” Odds are 147,000 to one Iron Man makes an appearance. Odds are 2 to 1 they mention something from Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger, which doesn’t qualify in our book as “cinematic,” but….it’s these guys.
Don’t be surprised if Cloak and Dagger themselves visit the Runaways soon. The characters met and crossed over in the original comic’s arc, Runaways has mentioned Roxxon (the evil company whose experiments gave Cloak and Dagger their powers), and the season finale of C&D on Freeform had the first episode of Runaways run after it as a special event. It’s obvious to us they’re setting something up.
Runaways Season 2 becomes available to stream this Christmas.
