Romantic Laughs: 2 Must-Watch 2024 Korean Rom-Coms on Viki

Two (2) romantic comedy Korean drama series both started streaming on Viki in November 2024 and one of them is a Viki Original. If you want sweet and light-hearted entertainment, these rom-coms are perfect for curling up on your couch with a bowl of popcorn. Especially good for a weekend binge.

(1) “Love Your Enemy” ~ 12 episodes

In “Love Your Enemy”, Seok Ji-Won and Yoon Ji-Won are sort of star-crossed lovers, in the sense that their families have been enemies for generations. The families just won’t let it go! The fight was over a woman but other things happened that added fuel to the fire. Now Seok Ji-Won sees an opportunity to finally get revenge against Yoon Ji-Won’s father and his son, Seok Ji-Won, had better not mess it up!!

Seok Ji-Won and Yoon Ji-Won were both born on the same day, in the same town, and the only difference is one is a boy and the other is a girl. Other than that, Yoon Ji-Won (the girl) has always challenged Seok Ji-Won (the boy). She is super confident that anything he can do or does, she will be way better at it than him. They have maintained rivalry throughout all of their school years. Once they graduated from high school, Seok Ji-Won went away to finish his education while Seok Ji-Won stayed behind. Yoon Ji-Won became a P.E. teacher at the same high school they both attended. The shocker was when Seok Ji-Won returned as the chairman, her boss. His father put him in charge because he intended to tear down the school and build a golf course. It was the ultimate revenge because he knew Yoon Ji-Won’s father cherished that school.

Seok Ji-Won thinks his father constant determination to get revenge is silly and doesn’t know he has to be involved. But that doesn’t bother him nearly as much as the fact his friends told him that Yoon Ji-Won said that she doesn’t even remember him. WHAT? They were almost … well … at least they could have been … he … she … he … Darn it! He really liked her a lot. He was sure that she liked him too. How dare she say she doesn’t remember him? Alright! Let’s see if she doesn’t remember.

Seok Ji-Won had a few encounters with Yoon Ji-Won. It wasn’t so much that she didn’t remember him. It’s just that she didn’t have her contacts on and she was hit by a ball which broke her eyeglasses. She couldn’t really see Yoon Ji-Won’s face because her vision was blurred. And yet … her reaction when he stood in front of her convinced Seok Ji-Won that she had not forgotten him at all. That gave him confidence. Although Yoon Ji-Won did not try to pursue him, she couldn’t resist a challenge. They made a bet. Seok Ji-Won put his job on the line. If he lost the bet, he would step down from his position as chairman and leave the school. But if he won, then she would have to date him. It was just like the last time they made a bet. That was in high school and he lost! Yoon Ji-Won figured he would lose again and she be rid of him.

Love Your Enemy” is a rom-com series that has the words “silliness and adorable cuteness” written all over it. Even though it’s fiction, the storyline reflects real-life scenarios. How many kids are born into this world with parents who have it out for each other? Through no fault of their own, they get dragged into a feud that has been going on for years. Of course, they had every right to ask: “Why do I have to hate this person? It’s not my feud?” But you know how parents are. This Korean drama is kind of a twist on the romance between Romeo and Juliet. I said, “kind of”. It’s a forbidden love complicated by the fact that the lovers have always been rivals anyway! I’m the best! NO! I’m the best! It’s hilarious.

(2) “Brewing Love” ~ A Viki Original ~ 12 episodes

In “Brewing Love”, Chae Yong-Joo made quite the career transition. She went from being in the military’s special forces to sales. Sales? Yes. She’s a a salesperson for a liquor company where she has been working for 5+ year and has already made a name for herself as a sales king. However, the branch where she works is going to be closed down unless … ???  Unless she can do something about it. But what? Uuuhh … maybe she can sell a new beer.

Yoon Min-Joo earned the brewmaster designation from the German specialized institute V and he is the CEO of the brewery company that makes this new beer. He launched his craft beer called “In My Name”. Even though his operation is small-scale he has already attracted the attention and the envy of his competitors. Before he gets too big they want to persuade him to let them sell his beer.

It’s Chae Yong-Joo’s job to persuade Yoon Min-Joo. But there are others also trying to woo him. No worries. Chae Yong-Joo does not give up easily. She’s really motivated because she has to save the branch.  It’s not just business.  It’s personal.

"Love Your Enemy" sounds like a pure delight! The rivalry-turned-romance dynamic between Seok Ji-Won and Yoon Ji-Won has so much comedic potential. I love how they bet their futures on a challenge—it keeps the stakes high yet playful. Ju Ji-Hoon's performance in Kingdom was phenomenal, so I’m sure he’ll bring both charm and depth to Seok Ji-Won. Also, the twist with blurred vision leading to mistaken emotions is clever and relatable. I’ll definitely check this out over the weekend—it’s the kind of light-hearted escapism we all need.

I’m on the fence about Love Your Enemy. While the enemies-to-lovers trope is timeless, I worry it might lean too heavily on clichés. The overbearing family feud could feel dated if not executed with nuance. That said, Ju Ji-Hoon and Jung Yu-Mi are strong actors, and their chemistry might carry the story. I’ll give it a try, but the 9.8 rating from Viki viewers seems inflated—those tend to reflect fandom enthusiasm rather than critical quality.

Brewing Love caught my attention more than Love Your Enemy. The idea of a military-special-forces-turned-salesperson character is so unique! Chae Yong-Joo seems like a powerhouse of a character, and I’m curious to see her navigate business challenges while forming a romance with the sensitive Yoon Min-Joo. Plus, the beer industry setting feels fresh compared to the typical corporate backdrop. I’m looking forward to seeing how this mix of determination, charm, and humor plays out.

Both of these sound absolutely adorable, but Love Your Enemy feels like it was made for me. The love-hate tension, long-standing rivalry, and quirky misunderstandings? Perfect ingredients for a heartwarming story. And that bet! Betting your career or dating someone—it’s so dramatic yet charming. I’m ready to binge this and swoon over every hilarious and tender moment.

Viki’s investment in these rom-coms shows how the platform is doubling down on high-quality content for international audiences. Both series seem promising, but Brewing Love stands out for its innovative premise. Incorporating the beer industry adds a unique layer of cultural and business intrigue. However, I hope these shows avoid the pitfalls of filler episodes, which sometimes plague K-dramas, especially when they’re only 12 episodes long.

Brewing love Rocks! I really appreciated how they handled Yoon Min-Joo’s character. He’s such a great example of how men can be strong in their sensitivity and emotional openness. It’s so rare to see this portrayed positively without making it feel forced. I also loved how Chae Yong-Joo’s strength didn’t mean she had to suppress her emotions. Their dynamic feels so real and balanced—it’s not about one saving the other, but about them growing together. This drama is a gem.

I agree, This show feels like a warm hug! The way it portrays love—not just romantic, but self-love and kindness—is so inspiring. Yoon Min-Joo’s character resonates deeply with me. He shows that being gentle doesn’t make you weak, and it’s such a powerful message. Watching him and Chae Yong-Joo slowly break down each other’s walls has been an emotional journey. I’ve cried, I’ve laughed, and I’ve felt so seen by this story. Truly, one of the best dramas I’ve ever watched.

Betting their futures? Yeah I thought that was pretty bold of him to put his job on the line. LOL.

My heart opened up to Yoon Min-Joo also. I like the way he stood his ground when necessary but he was kind and compassionate when necessary. He knew how to balance things. I also like Chae Yong-Joo because she too was unselfish.
