Rocket Raccoon and Groot Spinoff Film Likely
Whenever a comic comes out, there’s always a potential for a character, or characters, from that comic to become so popular that they get their own comic series. Batman has several comics, but so do his Robins. All four of them. Then you have the Avengers, who have multiple teams, and groups, and even solo series, there’s potential all around.
For movies though, there’s a little more of a limit, as movie studios would need to invest in a character that they know fans would watch before dumping millions of dollars into it. However, it appears that a fan favorite duo could in potential get their own film. Rocket Raccoon, and Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy.
This comes from the voice of Groot, Vin Diesel, who told Screen Junkies in an interview that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn wants to do a film featuring the duo
“I think if it’s up to James Gunn,” Diesel told Screenjunkies, “you’re going to see a Groot-Rocket movie after Infinity Wars. That’s highly possible.”
Rocket and Groot boomed in mainstream popularity after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy, and were not surprisingly a big focus in the teaser trailers for Guardians of the Galaxy 2. With the Marvel slate more or less a blank after Infinity War, anything is possible.

I always feel like it's overdoing it when studios want to do stuff like this. Rocket and Groot are great supporting characters/team members/sidekicks, but that doesn't mean they can or should carry their own film(s).
It's like the talk of a Mad Max: Fury Road prequel starring Furiosa. She was a great character, but sometimes characters like that are lightning in a bottle best as a one-off, and continuing to milk it beyond its sell by date just because of their popularity is overkill.

I agree. Rocket Raccoon was interesting because of his interactions with the rest of the lineup, and I imagine a movie about Groot will get terribly stale after a while considering the only things he can say are "I am Groot". Spinoffs shouldn't be done on supporting characters.
