Robert Downey Jr. Set for Spider-Man: Homecoming
It looks like Robert Downey Jr. will return to play Tony Stark/Iron Man one more time in another Marvel Cinematic Universe film. This one specifically is Spider-Man: Homecoming. The official Facebook page for the film announced the casting news this week. Details on the nature of the role and if it will be a major supporting role or a cameo have not yet been revealed.
Downey returning as Stark in the film makes sense. Spider-Man joins Team Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War, so it seems that Tony Stark has something to do with Peter Parker’s role in coming into the fold for the war against the other heroes. His presence in the film is good news, as it reinforces that the new Spider-Man movie takes place within the MCU, and Parker will be able to interact with other characters in that realm. Not to mention, Spider-Man joining the fold is a dream come true for fans and moviegoers alike. Plus, if the plan is to have Spider-Man ultimately join the Avengers later in Infinity War, it makes sense that he would keep in contact with Tony Stark.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is due out July 7, 2017. Tom Holland makes his debut as the MCU version of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, due out on May 6.
