Resident Evil 2 Dev Discusses Upcoming Remake
Speaking to VideoGamer, the producer of the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake for Capcom, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, expressed the hope that the goal of the remake is to “recapture the spirit” of the original game. Capcom announced the remake to great fanfare last year. After the success of the HD re-release for Resident Evil on the next-gen consoles, fans were eager to see one of the other favorite installments in the franchise get a similar treatment.
According to Hirabayashi, the development on the RE2 remake is “progressing” nicely, and he had an “incredible learning experience” after working on the remake for the first Resident Evil. He stated: “[The Resident Evil] GameCube remake was my first project at Capcom. I was able to learn from more experienced colleagues and see with my own eyes how they translated their efforts into such a masterpiece that built on an already well-received game,” he explained. “It was an incredibly valuable experience for me.”
The developer stressed that the Resident Evil remake was significant because the team had to go every every single element of the remake, including audio-visual assets, programming and game pacing. He added, “This fine toothcomb approach to the remaster really showed me what my predecessors focused on during the original project and that’s been very valuable too.”
He continued on learning from fan feedback: “Every title brings with it learning experiences. And of course, I saw a lot of the feedback on Resident Evil 6 and have taken on board everything I’ve heard from the fans about the game and I want to show you what it taught me through the next experience I’ll be bringing to you.”
It definitely sounds like Capcom is on the right track here. The upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake is currently in development. It’s release date will be revealed later on.
