♦ A Divorce Lawyer Gets a New Job
“Queen of Divorce” begins with what looks like an operation being carried out by a special ops team for law enforcement or the military. It’s not! It’s a nasty divorce. A husband kidnaps the wife’s son and is holding him for ransom. The child is his wife’s son; not his son. If she wants him back she had better settle the divorce on his terms.
Kim Sa-Ra is a team leader for a divorce resolution company called ‘Solution’ (Solution Divorce Services). That’s her “new job”. She leads a team of rescuers and they successfully thwart the husband’s cruel plans and safely deliver the child back to his mother. At one time, Kim Sa-Ra worked as a divorce lawyer at Chayul Law Firm. However, she no longer practices law because …
Two years before this incident, Kim Sa-Ra was a divorce lawyer at Chayul Law Firm, a firm run by her husband, Noh Yul-seong, and her mother-in-law (Who cares about her name? Just call her SPITEFUL WITCH!). Kim Sa-Ra was so good at her job people used to call her the “Queen of Divorce”. However, her mother-in-law and husband framed her for a crime they committed.
Kim Sa-Ra was sent to prison and lost custody of her son. When she was released from prison, she was hired to work at ‘Solution’ where she could still use her knowledge and skills about divorce law. While in prison she had acquired additional skills. Those skills were similar to skills used by rescue teams.
Kim Sa-Ra could not be a lawyer, so her job title was “Divorce Specialist” and she had to work with a lawyer. Dong Ki-joon is a former prosecutor. He used to work at the Seoul Southwestern District Prosecutors’ Office but was terminated because a fellow prosecutor did not appreciate being publicly described as an incompetent loser who was just trying to get promoted. Yeah he got fired, but it wasn’t because he LIED!
Dong Ki-joon is hired to work as a lawyer at ‘Solution’. He becomes Kim Sa-ra’s business partner and advisor. Although they did have a history with each other before she got married. He tried to persuade her not to marry Noh Yul-seong. You could say Noh Yul-seong bought his bride since he set her mother up in a restaurant business. Kim Sa-ra felt obligated to marry him. The only bright light in her marriage was her son and that light was stolen from her.
Sa-ra’s ex-husband remarried according to his mother’s demands and became CEO of Chayul Law Firm. His mother is the Chairman and still a witch! Sa-ra has not forgotten their betrayal. Their paths will cross again one day.

Viewership and Rating:
- IMDb: No rating published as of the date of the article
- My Drama List: 8 out of 10 stars
- Viki viewers rated this series 9.9 out of 10 stars
“Queen of Divorce” reminded me of an old American movie, “Double Jeopardy” (1999) starring Ashley Judd where her husband framed her for his murder. She spent time in prison. Her husband did not die. It was a setup. She found out and when she was released from prison you can guess what was the Number 1 Task on her “To Do List”.
In “Queen of Divorce”, the situation is similar. In Kim Sa-ra’s situation, her husband and her mother-in-law framed her for a crime she did not commit and she lost custody of her child. When she came out of prison her payback plans did not include the word “amicable”.
After watching the first episode, I was like “Oh, it’s ON! That nasty EX and his mother are going down down down!!” By the end of episode 1, if you’re like me, then your face is red and smoke is blowing out of your nostrils. This K-drama had me revved up and anxious to see Kim Sa-ra take down her enemies. Whew! Fortunately, there are lighthearted moments that allow for a cooling-off period.
My personal rating is the same as the Viki viewers: 9.9 out of 10 stars.
