Officer Black Belt

Officer Black Belt ~ From Delivery Guy to a Task Force

“Officer Black Belt” is a 2024 Korean drama film and can be categorized as Action, Crime, Police Procedural Drama, and Comedy. It’s English dubbed and subbed, and streaming on Netflix.

♦ He Took Down the Bad Guy With One Move? HIRE HIM!

In “Officer Black Belt”, Lee Jung-Do is one of those guys everybody would love to have as a best friend or a brother. Everything about him is awesome! He has a great personality, he’s talk, dark, and handsome. Dark, when he’s not a blonde, that is. And when it comes to martial arts, you might think he somehow inherited his DNA genes from the incomparable Bruce Lee. What does someone fitting that description do for a living? Uuhh … he delivers fried chicken. His dad owns a restaurant and he helps out making the deliveries.

One night after dropping off a delivery he was driving by and heard sounds. He looked down the alley and saw two men engaged in a heated one-on-one combat. One guy was a police officer and obviously, the other was a bad guy. It turns out that the man in law enforcement was a “martial arts officer” and the bad guy was about to do him in.

Even though Lee Jung-Do was a citizen, who could have looked the other way, he had to offer the officer some assistance. He stepped in and took out the bad guy. WITH ONE MOVE!! The martial arts officer was impressed. Lee Jung-Do received an award because he was a brave citizen and was about to go back to being a delivery guy but …

Kim Sun-Min is a probation officer and he approached Lee Jung-Do and asked if he would be interested in working temporarily to fill in for the officer who was injured. That officer had to get medical treatment and time off to recover. Lee Jung-Do accepted the temporary employment offer, but he was so good it wasn’t long before they hired him “officially” as a martial arts officer who would be a member of a special task force. Kim Sun-Min is responsible for monitoring and keeping track of violent offenders who are on probation. The offenders wear ankle bracelets and supposedly there is technology to help law enforcement know where they are at all times. (Yeah right.)

For a particular assignment, Lee Jung-Do noted that the person they had to keep track of committed sex crimes against children. A screen on a computer showed that the offender was hanging around areas where there were children. The offender was not supposed to be near children. There was no way Lee Jung-Do would just rely on technology to monitor this guy’s whereabouts. He wanted to be in the area where the man was located so he could get to him quickly.

Kim Sun-Min approved but gave him electronic devices so that they could stay in touch with each other. He also cautioned Lee Jung-Do to be extra careful because these offenders were extremely dangerous. It was good that Lee Jung-Do was out in the field. Nothing happened to the innocent children but no doubt it was because Lee Jung-Do made sure nothing happened.

The Bad Guy Got Away But He Will Be Captured

Lee Jung-Do was given another assignment and this one was even worse than the other assignments. A violent criminal who had been in prison for 20 years for sex crimes against children was going to be let out of prison on probation. Lee Jung-Do and Kim Sun-Min had to keep track of him. Of course, criminals have buddies who can help them get around “the system”.

As soon as the criminal was released he hooked up with other dirtbags and they offered to pay him to perform in child porn videos. Of course, he agreed. But he probably didn’t expect Lee Jung-Do and others on the task force to be hot on his trail. This assignment got UGLY! Bad guys and people in law enforcement were both injured. A child had been kidnapped and she was going to be exploited and sexually assaulted.

On the plus side, Lee Jung-Do saved the young girl. On the minus side, the offender broke off his ankle bracelet and escaped from the police and Lee Jung-Do ended up in the hospital. At the moment, the bad guy might think he has the upper hand and got away. But, even in a hospital bed, Lee Jung-Do had made up his mind that this was not the way the assignment was going to end. He approached all of his missions on the task force with the same zeal. BAD GUYS BETTER BEWARE!!

Main Characters:

  • Lee Jung-Do (played by Kim Woo-Bin, “Black Knight”)
  • Kim Sun-Min (played by Kim Sung-Kyun, “Divorce Attorney Shin”)

Where to Watch

Viewership and Rating:

  • IMDb: 7 out of 10 stars
  • MyDramaList: 8 out of 10 stars

My personal rating is the same as My Drama List.

They have this Netflix series categorized as a Comedy, but I was not laughing. If you want o see me blow a fuse, show me a child being harmed or injured. The first episode of “Officer Black Belt” made me so angry I felt like spitting daggers. On the plus side, the martial arts scenes were fantastic. Every time a bad guy got hit or kicked, I felt like I was the one throwing the blows. Take that, you dirty rat!! LOL.

This Korean drama addresses serious topics (like child porn and keeping close track of a repeat offender who wears an ankle bracelet), has lots of fight scenes and a male lead who is so honorable, upright and lovable that you want to form a special cheerleading squad just for him. Although the male lead is played by Kim Woo-Bin and he already has a squad of cheerleaders.

I really enjoyed the way the movie shifted tones from a buddy cop comedy to a more serious crime drama. The characters were well-developed, and the performances were excellent. I especially liked the way the film handled the darker themes without becoming too grim

The fight scenes were incredible! Kim Woo-bin is a fantastic martial artist, and his skills are on full display in this movie. I loved the way the fights evolved as the story progressed, becoming more intense and brutal. The movie does a great job of exploring the darker side of law enforcement. The characters are forced to confront the realities of violence and child exploitation, and the film doesn't shy away from the harsh truths. It's a powerful and thought-provoking story

The movie sucks, I was hoping for more impressive fight scenes. While they're not bad, they lack the energy and creativity of classic martial arts films. It's a shame, because Kim Woo-bin is a talented actor and martial artist.Officer Black Belt feels like a throwback to the classic buddy cop genre, but it lacks the charm and originality of those films. It's a missed opportunity to create something truly memorable.

The martial arts action scenes are incredible. But I also know that the actor Lee Woo-Bin has some health problems. It's great to see him carrying on.

This is why I said I was so angry, I felt like "spitting daggers". I don't know about the justice system in South Korea but the justice system in America could use some improvements. We let sex offenders out of prison but they have to put their name on a registry for sex offenders. Oh wow! That should protect the public, huh? There was a man who killed an 8-year-old girl and they let him out of prison. He killed again. He didn't kill a child. But that's not the point. Is it? This was a real-life situation where I felt like "spitting daggers".
