NYCC: Kevin Smith Loves Ben Affleck’s Batman
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is easily one of the most divisive superhero movies ever. Though it made millions at the box office, the feelings among fans and critics is very split. Kevin Smith for example didn’t like the movie at first, but then saw what made it special on second viewing. At New York Comic Con though, he noted that his love of Ben Affleck as Batman was never in doubt:
“Ben Affleck rules as the Batman. The brilliance of Zach Snyder said, let’s make him look and move like the video game Batman. I mean it used to be Michael Keaton, and f***, Mr. Mom doesn’t hit too hard, but Ben comes in and blows up 12 people just coming in the door.”
He also notes that fans shouldn’t compare Marvel and DC’s movie universes, that there’s plenty of room for both:
“They are never going to be Marvel movies… and as a long time fan of this s*** I don’t care, you are either a DC guy or a Marvel guy and really DC isn’t ever going to do what Marvel does… but really, when I was a kid and wish they had all this s***… so for years we have wanted this and now we got it. So, maybe be careful what you f****** wish for, I guess.”
The next DC Comics movie is Wonder Woman, which will be followed by the return of Batman in Justice League.
