Though you may not realize it, many classic DC Comics characters were born as characters under the Milestone Comics brand. Later brought into the DCU, they grew into well known properties, including Static Shock, who has been seen in animated form many times. But, over the past few years, there’s been rumblings that Milestone would return with its own brand. Well, at NYCC 2017, it revealed that it was, and it wasn’t.
The character are going to be their own thing, but they’ll still be in the DCU. They’ll just be in their own universe of it called Earth M. It’ll start in 2018 with a comic called Milestone, and then grow from there:
“We know fans have been waiting for the return of Milestone Media and we’re excited to collaborate with Reggie and Denys to build this new Earth M universe,” states DC’s Jim Lee in a statement. “This world will reintroduce iconic characters fans know and love—along with new, bold, original concepts—creating a new platform dedicated to inclusion and great storytelling.”
Here’s some other characters you can expect to see soon:
- STATIC SHOCK, an ongoing series from Hudlin and Kyle Baker, focusing on 14-year-old Virgil Hawkins, a kid with a love of comics and science who develops dazzling, electric superpowers.
- DUO, a new Earth M miniseries written by Greg Pak, introducing the twisted story of Jake and Julie Chan, a couple now sharing one body for eternity.
