New 2K Studio Officially Working On The Next Bioshock
2K just announced a new Bioshock? Kind of. There are no videos, screenshots, or even development art. The whole thing is just getting started, and at a new spinoff studio: Cloud Chamber. The studio’s existence was revealed today.
“BioShock is one of the most beloved, critically praised and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation,” said David Ismailer, President of 2K. “We can’t wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge.”
If it sounds odd that 2K would wait this long to begin development on the next Bioshock, that’s because it isn’t actually the case. According to sources at Kotaku, Bioshock 4 has been in pre-development as far back as 2015, just unannounced — and at a different studio. Reportedly 2K was not pleased with that studio’s work, and pulled the project the following year. It’s only now that the publisher feels confident enough to officially reveal the next game is in the pipe.
And before you ask, no — creator Ken Levine is not involved with this one. It’s anyone’s guess what we’re going to get. Bad or good, it’ll be years before we get to play it on PS5 and Project Scarlett. Worries for another day.
