Netflix Reveals The Dead Boy Detectives
Warner Bros announced Dead Boy Detectives two years ago, around the same time the characters that it’s about appeared on an episode of Doom Patrol. That led everyone to believe we were getting a Doom Patrol spinoff, and given that series just ran its own bittersweet ending, it really would’ve been welcome! But the truth is, the Dead Boy Detectives are technically part of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman universe and were always intended to be a spinoff of THAT show, which is on Netflix.
Charles Rowland and Edward Paine are dead boys who are also detectives. They perished decades apart, but after they met up as ghosts, thought “hey, we should be friends and possibly solve mysteries.” But how do you solve murders when you’re dead yourself? They find a conduit in Crystal Palace, a medium with a neat name who has the ability to see the boys and help them chase down crimes of the supernatural variety.
On Doom Patrol the Dead Boy Detectives were played by different people than they will be here (and I could have sworn that their names were mentioned somewhere online, but….I got nothing). Here the boys are played by George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri, and Kassius Nelson plays Crystal. Other cast members include Briana Cuoco (The Flight Attendant) as Jenny the Butcher, Ruth Connell (Supernatural) as the Night Nurse, Yuyu Kitamura (The Expatriates) as Niko, Jenn Lyon (Claws) as Esther, along with Lukas Gage (YOU) and David Iacono (The Flight Attendant) as unnamed characters.
The first season of Dead Boy Detectives will be eight episodes long and should appear on Netflix sometime in 2024.
