“My Love From the Star” is a 2013 Korean drama, 21 episodes, categorized as Fantasy, Supernatural, Science Fiction (Sci-Fi), Romance, and Comedy (Rom-Com). It is streaming on Netflix, Viki, and KOCOWA+.
When this K-drama originally aired in 2013, it received high praise from viewers worldwide. In 2025, Kim Soo-Hyun, the male lead, was accused of having inappropriate relationships with underage girls. It turns out it was an AI-manipulated scandal, so his reputation is no longer in question. Fans can feel comfortable watching Korean dramas starring this fine actor and might enjoy revisiting this classic drama. It’s 2026, and the K-drama has aged well.
- Memorable Quote: βLife isn’t long enough for human beings to grow up.β
SUMMARY: An alien stranded on Earth for 400 years finds his carefully controlled life upended when he meets a famous actress whose chaotic world pulls him into unexpected emotions.
β¦ An Alien Has Arrived
In βMy Love From the Starβ, Do Min-Joon is an alien who arrived on Earth during the Joseon Dynasty in 1609. After becoming stranded, he has spent over four centuries living among humans, adopting new identities every decade to conceal his unchanging appearance. His extraordinary abilitiesβenhanced vision, hearing, and speedβcontrast sharply with his cynical view of humanity, shaped by centuries of observing human behavior from a distance. With only three months left before he can finally return to his home planet, Do Min-Joon is determined to avoid attachments of any kind.
ENTER Cheon Song-Yi
Do Min-Joon’s carefully controlled life is disrupted when he meets Cheon Song-Yi, a glamorous, outspoken, and often hilariously self-absorbed top actress who becomes his next-door neighbor. Cheon Song-Yi is a celebrity accustomed to the spotlight, yet beneath her confident exterior lies vulnerability shaped by the pressures of fame. Her unpredictable personality and tendency to attract trouble pull Do Min-Joon into situations he has long tried to avoid. Despite his attempts to remain detached, he finds himself increasingly drawn to her, especially when he realizes she resembles a young girl he once saved centuries earlier. This connection complicates his resolve to leave Earth, forcing him to confront emotions he has suppressed for hundreds of years.
More People, More Complications, Less Control
Lee Whi-Kyung is Cheon Song-Yiβs loyal friend since middle school and harbors long-standing feelings for her. His warm, earnest nature contrasts with Do Min-Joonβs reserved demeanor, creating a subtle emotional love triangle that adds depth without overshadowing the main storyline.
Yoo Se-Mi is also Cheon Song-Yiβs childhood friend and a fellow actress; she struggles with her own insecurities and unrequited love for Lee Whi-Kyung. Her rivalry with Cheon Song-Yiβboth professionally and emotionallyβadds tension and complexity to their relationship.
Lee Jae-Kyung is Lee Whi-Kyungβs older brother. He is dark and dangerous and has no qualms about committing murder if certain people become an inconvenience or interference. His dangerous ambitions and hidden motives entangle both Do Min-Joon and Cheon Song-Yi in his web. As Do Min-Joon becomes more involved in Cheon Song-Yiβs chaotic life, he must navigate the risks of revealing his true identity while protecting her from threats she doesnβt fully understand.
Star-Crossed Lovers
“Star-crossed” means the stars are against themβa reference to the old belief that astrological alignments determine human destiny. If the stars are βcrossed,β fate itself obstructs the relationship. The lovers are destined to meet, but destined to fail, no matter how strong their feelings.
Do Min-Joon is from another world, and only one friend knows his true identity. His stay on Earth was never supposed to be permanent. When he met Cheon Song-Yi, he had plans to go back to his world in three (3) more months. For 400 years, he has avoided love. A young girl from Joseon died in his arms trying to protect him, when he had promised to protect her. What is the use of having special abilities when you can’t stop pain and suffering? Shouldn’t he avoid falling in love, especially if separation is inevitable?
My Love From the Star puts an interesting spin on a tale about star-crossed lovers.

“My Love From the Star” was released in 2013. If you’re looking for a reason to watch this Korean drama, it has been described as follows:
- “‘My Love From the Star’ is a legendary sci-fi romantic comedy blending an emotional love story, fantasy elements, and an intriguing thriller plot. The masterful chemistry between a snobbish, endearing top actress and an aloof 400-year-old alien creates a compelling and iconic must-watch K-drama.β (Wikipedia notes)
That’s not why the series was added to my watch list. I’m now able to watch it with a clear conscience. I am a fan of Kim Soo-Hyun, but there was βnewsβ circulated about his involvement with underage actresses who committed suicide. The scandalous reports were very upsetting and it was hard to choose K-dramas where he was part of the cast. The reports were almost nonstop. FINALLY, there was a news report that settled everything.
It seems this actor was the victim of false allegations and an AI-fabricated cybercrime. For over a year, he was unable to work because the stories needed to be verified. Happy to say they caught the people responsible for the malicious stories, and this talented actor has started working again. I’ve started watching his K-dramas again. Geez! They could make a K-drama about this guy’s trauma.
